Neighbor Meeting Recap

On Saturday, we met as a group of neighbors concerned about the proposed apartment units that may be developed near the daycare adjoined to our neighborhood. Here is a quick recap from our HOA president, Tony Nazal:

Neighbors - Development Meeting regarding apartments
I want to thank everyone that turned out for the meeting and the many suggestions. As we stated in the meeting, everyone has a dog in this fight so we have to get all our neighbors and Cleveland Community moving against the development of apartments at the end of Adams Point.

Some Points of the meeting:
1) Approx. 300 plus low end(?) apartments planned for local behind Lowe's.
2) Approx. 200 plus apartments planned for the end of the Adams Point Development.
3) Interchange planned for Cornwallis Road overpass.
4) Neighborhood on 50 Hwy. fought against apartments and won.
5) Schools are over burdened now, we don't want to be bussed across JC. Currently students ride for as much as an hour due to traffic.
6) Crime is at an all time high, Clayton Police note higher number of issues.
7) Original realtor of AP presented that commercial would be adjacent to our community.
8) Housing prices are off and value will be further depleted thus pushing toward more foreclosures then diminishing the property tax base. Apartments have a negative affect.
9) It is our job to push the County Commissioners to be patient, the economy will come back.

Here are the action items of the meeting:
1) Confirm if the County Commissioners have signed off on this yet.
2) Start a petition for the community (AP and surrounding neighborhoods).
3) Confirm/push off Hearing to a reasonable date. Currently January 3rd at 6pm.
4) EVERYONE (Cleveland Community) attend the planning hearing.
5) Develop the strategy to fight this with all we have. Letter writing campaign, petition, etc.
6) Speak with a local attorney about a strategy to fight the apartments and maintain the commercial zoning.
7) Connect with local media to get some visibility on this issue.
